How to be a fun parent! :)

Often times, we lose site of being fun and carefree. For most of us with busy lives, hectic schedules and a lot of responsibilities, fun is not always our priority list. But maybe it should be. Now, I know we need to give our kids structure and rules...but maybe there can be times when we can just be goofy and silly! Let loose a little, and allow ourselves and our kids to be a little zany!

My son and I love to have silly time! I think I have heard him laugh his hardest from us just being goofy together...and who doesn't love to hear their kid(s) laugh?!? I think it is one of the best sounds in the world! I feel that we bond a lot through these special moments we share. It allows your kids to see you in a whole new light.

Here are 5 ways to be silly with your kids! Try a few of them out and see your child's eyes light up when you connect through some whacky, silly, fun!

Take goofy selfies together! Oh my gosh, my son loves this! He will request that we do this from time to time, and it makes us crack up so hard! I am going to share some of these photos we take, and yes, it is slightly embarrassing to share them with you all, however, I think it proves my point of how much fun doing this can be! So, yes, go a head and laugh at them...I won't get mad, I swear!

Make up goofy songs! We love music at my house and while we are doing a task, we will often make up silly songs as we go. For example, while giving my son a bath, I might make up a silly song about washing his hair, washing his armpits, etc...nothing is scripted and you can bet my singing is not in tune...none of that matters! I will sing a few lines and he will laugh at my silliness! Then he'll often chime in and add the next verse. It is a lot of fun!

Have a dance party! We have a few kids CD's that have cute little kids songs on them. One of my favorites is a Yo Gabba Gabba CD, where almost every song has dance moves to go with it. Sadly, my son is out-growing Yo Gabba Gabba, but seriously, for about 4 years he enjoyed doing their silly dances to this CD! Now that he is older, we have a couple other CD's that he still enjoys. And you can even make a dance party out of any song with a good beat; it doesn't strictly need to be a kids CD. So, have fun, dance like a fool, waves your hands in the air, and kick up your heels! ...and hey, you'll burn some calories too! Bonus!

Tickles! Now this is tricky for me...I actually hate being tickled. I just never have liked it. But my son enjoys getting tickled. Ok, fine by me! I'm never one to over do it though...I will tickle a little and stop, usually wrestle a little, then tickle a bit more...my son will laugh so hard! It makes me laugh to hear him laugh so despite not like tickling personally, it's still fun.

Playing a game of tag! I'm sure you have seen your child(ren) play a good ol' fashioned game of tag with other kids, but have YOU ever joined in? It's near impossible to play a game of tag without laughing and smiling! Your children will love to do this with you, I promise!

I hope you enjoyed my list of silliness! I guess I am still a bit of a kid at heart! I think we all need to be! What do you do to have fun silly moments with your kids? Do you do any of the same things that I do with my kiddo? Please share :)

  5. I fear the day my kids will be too old for the silly fun we get up to now. If I'm honest I do more for me than for them, it's the best way to unwind!

  6. I've learned to be silly, it used to be my husband's job. You're right I love to hear my kids laugh! Dermot, I don't think they will get too old, not when we demonstrate the humor.

    1. Hey that is totally cool that you have dance parties with your cousins! Sounds like if you ever were to have kids, you already know how to have fun and have silly time! And even if you don't have your own, most of us have some contact with children (through family or friends), so you can still be goofy with them!
